The situation

Inspektlabs builds computer vision that inspects vehicles from photos and video: it detects damage, estimates severity and supports claims, rental check-in and check-out, and fleet condition reports. Its buyers are insurers, car rental companies, leasing firms and fleet operators. These are slow, technical, risk-averse purchases, and the people evaluating them increasingly start with an AI answer: 'how does AI vehicle damage detection work', 'best automated car inspection software for insurers', 'can AI estimate repair cost from photos'.

Deeptech has a specific problem in AI search. The product is genuinely hard to explain, the category language is still settling (vehicle inspection, damage detection, claims automation, photo-based inspection all mean overlapping things), and the people who write about it most are generalist tech blogs that get the details wrong. If the company does not publish the clearest technical explanation on the web, an AI engine will build its answer from someone else's vaguer one.

Before this program, Inspektlabs was cited in zero AI responses. Today Google's AI products cite it 67 times across AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot have started to follow, and ChatGPT and Perplexity still have not. This page covers both halves honestly.

01Why did Google AI Mode cite 28 different Inspektlabs pages?

The standout number is AI Mode: 25 responses citing 28 distinct pages. That is more pages than responses, which tells you how AI Mode works. It runs a wide query fan-out, splitting one buyer question into many technical sub-queries ('how does damage detection handle reflections', 'what photos are needed for an AI inspection', 'how accurate is AI repair estimation', 'how do insurers use photo inspections for claims'), and then cites several sources inside a single answer, one per sub-question.

A deeptech site that has a precise page for each of those sub-questions gets cited multiple times in one answer. That is the payoff of depth: not one hero page competing for a head term, but a library of technical passages that each win a narrow sub-query.

Retrieval is passage-level, so each page needs its answer in the first lines under a heading phrased as the question. Engineers tend to write the opposite way, building up context before the conclusion. The edit that matters most on technical content is moving the conclusion to the top and letting the explanation follow.

  • One page per technical sub-question, with the answer in the first two sentences.
  • Defined terms on first use, so the passage stands alone when lifted out of context.
  • Specific, verifiable claims about how the system works, not adjectives about how good it is.
  • TechArticle, Organization and SoftwareApplication schema, plus DefinedTerm on glossary entries.

02What does technical credibility look like to an AI engine?

Engines cannot evaluate a computer vision model, so they evaluate the signals around it. Named authors with real credentials and linked profiles. Methodology pages that explain how a model is trained and evaluated in plain terms. Clear statements of what the system cannot do, such as lighting conditions or damage types it struggles with. Citations to recognised research. Consistent entity information across the company site, LinkedIn, Crunchbase-style profiles and industry directories.

For deeptech, the honest limitation is a credibility asset, just as it is in consumer reviews. A page that says where photo-based inspection needs a human in the loop is more likely to be quoted than a page claiming perfect accuracy, because the engine is looking for a balanced, defensible statement to repeat.

The play is to treat every technical page as if a skeptical claims manager and a skeptical ML engineer will both read it. If both would nod, the page is ready.

04How do insurer and fleet publications feed AI answers?

Deeptech buyers read their own trade press, not tech blogs. Insurance technology outlets, claims and fleet management publications, rental industry associations and conference sites all rank for the category's technical queries and carry the authority engines look for.

The play is contributed expertise: bylined articles from Inspektlabs' technical leaders on specific problems (how photo inspection changes rental check-out disputes, what claims teams should ask before deploying damage detection), expert quotes in industry roundups, and speaker slots at insurance and mobility conferences. Each placement is a referring domain from exactly the right neighbourhood and a third-party description of what the company does, which is how both Google and language models learn the entity.

Conference talks on YouTube extend this. Recorded talks with accurate captions and chapters give engines a transcript of a credible expert explaining the technology, on a domain AI products already lean on. Re-uploading a talk to the company channel with a descriptive title and chapters, and embedding it on the matching technical page, turns one stage appearance into a permanent citation asset.

  • Bylined technical articles in insurtech, claims and fleet publications.
  • Expert commentary in 'AI in claims' and 'future of fleet' roundups.
  • Conference talks recorded, captioned, chaptered and embedded on site.
  • Directory and marketplace listings in insurtech and automotive tech ecosystems.

05Why do ChatGPT and Perplexity still cite Inspektlabs zero times?

This is the honest part. Google's products moved first, and Gemini, Copilot and Grok have started. ChatGPT and Perplexity remain at zero. That is a common pattern, and the reasons are structural, not a mystery.

ChatGPT search leans heavily on Bing's index and on third-party sources: forums, Reddit, review sites and 'best X software' listicles. It tends to answer 'what is the best AI vehicle inspection tool' by summarising what other people say about vendors, not by reading vendor sites. A company that is well described on its own domain but thinly described elsewhere is invisible to it.

Perplexity favours fresh, clearly citable pages and leans on Reddit and recent discussion. It rewards sources that are updated, specific and widely referenced in community conversations.

So the next frontier is not more pages on inspektlabs.com. It is being described accurately on the sites ChatGPT and Perplexity trust: Bing-indexed listicles and comparisons, review and software directories, and Reddit threads where insurance, fleet and rental professionals discuss tooling.

  • Verify Bing indexing and submit key pages through Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow.
  • Earn inclusion in third-party 'best vehicle inspection software' and 'claims automation tools' roundups.
  • Publish honest comparison and alternatives pages on the company site.
  • Build disclosed Reddit presence where the buyers already talk shop.

06Does Reddit work for a deeptech company selling to insurers?Grey area

Yes, but not in the way consumer brands use it. The relevant communities are smaller and more professional: r/Insurance, r/ClaimsAdjusters, r/fleetmanagement, r/computervision, r/MachineLearning for the technical audience, and rental and automotive industry subreddits. These communities punish marketing instantly and reward expertise generously.

The play starts comment first. A disclosed technical team member answers real questions: how adjusters can trust photo-based estimates, what image quality problems break computer vision models, how rental companies handle damage disputes. Weeks of that build an account history the community recognises.

Then a 4-post campaign around something genuinely interesting: a technical breakdown of how damage detection handles glare and reflections, a discussion thread on where AI inspection should and should not replace a human adjuster, a short demo video of an inspection running on a phone, and an honest comparison of approaches. None of it is a pitch. All of it is the kind of thread Perplexity and ChatGPT pick up when someone asks how AI vehicle inspection works.

Seeding the question is fair here too: a disclosed team member can ask the community what claims teams want from inspection tools, and the thread becomes a source in its own right. Fake adjuster accounts praising the product, undisclosed staff posts and bought upvotes are out, and in a small professional community they are spotted within hours.

07How do LinkedIn, X and listicles close the ChatGPT gap?Grey area

LinkedIn is where insurance and fleet buyers actually spend professional attention. Founder and CTO posts with short demo clips, lessons from deployments and plain-language explanations of the technology build the entity's description in the place buyers check first. LinkedIn articles, which are indexed and sit on a very high-authority domain, are a grey-but-legitimate way to get a technical explainer onto a host engines already trust while the company domain catches up.

X matters for the technical audience: computer vision researchers and ML engineers discuss methods there, and being part of that conversation earns mentions from people who write the technical blogs engines later cite.

Listicles are the most direct lever for ChatGPT. The play is twofold: earn inclusion in third-party roundups by pitching editors with clear differentiators and evidence, and publish a self-hosted 'best AI vehicle inspection software' comparison that includes Inspektlabs alongside competitors with stated criteria. Self-inclusion is grey, so the criteria have to be transparent and competitors have to be described fairly, or the page reads as an ad and earns nothing.

One story, four channels

The same story, cut for each channel. Reddit leads because AI engines treat it as the voice of real users.

RedditLeads

How the play runs

  1. Phase 1

Map buyer questions by segment and pull the AI Overview and AI Mode answers to list their technical sub-queries.

  2. Phase 2

Rewrite technical pages answer-first, add methodology, limitations and schema, and launch the glossary.

  3. Phase 3

Trade publication bylines, directory listings, whitepapers and reclamation to grow relevant referring domains.

  4. Phase 4

Conference talks captioned and chaptered on YouTube, embedded on matching pages.

  5. Next

Close the ChatGPT and Perplexity gap: Bing indexing, third-party listicles, an honest comparison page and a disclosed Reddit presence.

What to take from it

  • In deeptech, AI Mode rewards a library of precise technical pages. Inspektlabs had 28 pages cited across 25 AI Mode responses.
  • Engines cannot judge your model, so they judge the signals around it: named experts, methodology, honest limits, trade press.
  • Glossaries and whitepapers earn links from people who will never buy, and those links lift the pages that sell.
  • Google citing you while ChatGPT does not is an off-site problem. ChatGPT leans on Bing, Reddit and listicles.
  • Honest limitations are a credibility asset. The balanced passage is the one that gets quoted.

Questions

Why does Google AI Mode cite more pages than responses?

AI Mode splits a question into many sub-queries and cites a source for each, so one answer can cite several pages from the same site. Inspektlabs had 28 pages cited across 25 AI Mode responses.

Why is my company cited in Google AI Overviews but not in ChatGPT?

ChatGPT search leans on Bing's index and on third-party sources like Reddit, review sites and listicles. If you are well described on your own site but thinly described elsewhere, Google may cite you while ChatGPT does not.

What content works best for deeptech AEO?

Precise answer-first technical pages, a glossary of category terms, methodology pages with honest limitations, and original research. These earn both citations and links.

Does link building still matter for AI search?

Yes. Inspektlabs' AI citations appeared as referring domains grew from 132 to 641 and Domain Rating rose from 27 to 39. Relevant links remain a key trust input for the pages engines choose to cite.
